Ceramic tiles

Remaining loyal in our goal of providing high quality products as well as keeping our customers up to date, we thought of briefly informing you of the production process and quality specifications of 'Philkeram Johnson s.a.' tiles. We are at your disposal concerning any detailed quality specifications of all the products we represent on request.

Refined raw materials such as akolinetes, plastic clays, feldspar, quartz, are used for the production of ceramic tile bodies. All these materials are blended together and grinded in wet environment. The water used to blend the raw materials is moved by spray-dryers. The ceramic bodies are shaped by pressing in hydraulic presses of high power (specific pressure used 600 kg/cm?) giving high mechanical strength to all products. After pressing, the ceramic tiles are dried in rapid dryers and then fired in Roller Kilns at 1.200 degrees Centigrade. Finished tiles are shorted and packed on lines which grade them according to colour shade, sizes, flatness, orthogonality. Human contribution at this stage is only connected to aesthetics. Laboratory quality controls on a daily basis ensure the high quality controls to all production stages and testify the final products.

The technical specifications encountered in a ceramic tile depend upon the choice and the proportion of raw materials as well as the production process employed. All primary specifications can be measured by using specific testing instruments that have been standardized with the equivalent specification charts in most European countries. In the EC countries valid are technical specifications of CEN. Due to the fact that the single tile cannot be ideal for all uses, when dealing with drawing offices or end consumers, they have to find the proper type of tile taking into consideration the conditions prevailed in the areas of its use. On packaging material it is imperative that some information must be written (not labelled or stamped) concerning quality, group indication production process used and other information.

In the EC countries the new technical specifications of EN 14411 are currently valid for ceramic tiles. 'Filkeram - Johnson s.a', one of the leading pioneers in its domain, provides a wide range of all types of tile production:
